Let’s start with civility, respect, and student success.

Hi, I'm Joy Koo, I've been a parent in this community for nearly a decade with two TUHSD graduates and a current student at Tam High. I'm campaigning for a seat on the Tamalpais Union High School District Board of Trustees this November because I believe our schools, and our community, deserve better.

Better board dynamics, restored trust between the board and the school community, and more student-centered, equitable, and accountable decision-making -- especially as our district continues to face a sizable budget deficit. Our schools offer so much potential. I want to see that potential realized for every single student.

I haven’t just watched from the sidelines.

I've spent the last decade doing the work.

I’ve been elected twice to Tam High's School Site Council, provided independent financial oversight of Mill Valley School District Measure G, a $194M school construction bond, and helped build the Marin Youth Job Fair into an event connecting 500+ students with local employers. Along the way, I've served on the LCAP Advisory Committee, championed fundraising campaigns including TUHSD’s Measure B, and rolled up my sleeves on site cleanup days, building strong relationships with students, teachers, district employees, seeing firsthand what our schools do well and where they're falling short.

Board-level decisions must center students and equity.

An engineer by training with two decades of private-sector experience, I'm solution oriented. I understand the profound impact that board-level budget decisions have on students, parents, teachers, and district employees. Larger class sizes, program cuts, and strained teachers aren't just line items; they're real-life consequences. Such decisions cannot be made without community involvement, greater consideration of the downstream impacts, and respect. Students and equity must unequivocally be centered in all decisions.
